<p><strong>About the Client, About the Project</strong></p>
<p>Krak&oacute;w Public Transport (KMK) is responsible for operating public transportation within the municipality of Krak&oacute;w and beyond its borders. Its network includes both bus and tram systems, with a tradition dating back to 1882.</p>
<p>We carried out the project for the City of Krak&oacute;w after winning a public tender. The scope of the project included vehicle livery design, a system of markings, visual identity elements inside the vehicles, and detailed guidelines for implementing all the proposed solutions.</p>
<p><strong>The Story &ndash; Our Approach</strong></p>
<p>The main challenge we faced was the vast diversity of KMK&rsquo;s vehicles. To be successfully implemented on such a large scale, the project had to be functional enough to meet the technical requirements of 31 different models of buses and trams.</p>
<p>The simplicity of the solution we aimed to propose was meant to meet the needs of Krak&oacute;w&rsquo;s residents. Our goal was to ensure easy identification, particularly for the elderly and visually impaired.</p>
<p>In our approach, we always strive to respect and highlight the unique character of the project's subject. Our main inspiration became the historic Sanok SN1 tram, which operated on Krak&oacute;w's tracks from 1913 until the late 1960s. It was at the intersection of functionality and historical reference that we sought a solution for the City of Krak&oacute;w.</p>

The goal of the project was to create a livery design that would be not only highly functional but also respectful of the city's historical character.</p>

<p>The main point of reference became the historic Sanok SN1 vehicles&mdash;electric trams manufactured between 1912 and 1936 in factories located in Sanok and Graz. These trams were in operation in Krak&oacute;w from 1913 until the late 1960s.</p>

The first volume outlines the identification principles along with instructions for their implementation. The second volume presents vehicle specifications with precise diagrams and visualizations of the livery for all KMK vehicles. The third volume includes recommendations for the placement of advertising space on the vehicles.</p>

The characteristics of the chosen colors have been described using the notation from the Natural Color System (NCS).</p>

<p>The color separation line defines the boundary between white and navy blue and runs continuously across all sides of the vehicle. This line is used for painting all buses. In the case of trams, the choice of painting scheme depends on the vehicle&rsquo;s construction. It is possible to apply the color separation line or opt for a uniform blue color scheme.</p>

The visualizations include side views of both vehicle sides as well as the front and rear walls. Each visualization is accompanied by a description of the applied colors and the specific elements where these colors are used. The visualizations are divided into two sections: one for buses and another for trams.</p>

The developed pictograms feature a linear design. To ensure consistency and simplicity in their application to stickers, the pictograms were designed based on a pre-established grid system.</p>

<p>Stickers serve as the medium for all signage placed inside and outside KMK vehicles, as well as at stops and on ticket machines. They come in both text-free and text-inclusive versions. The sticker database included in the Visual Identity Guide contains a complete set necessary for the proper and comprehensive labeling of public transport vehicles.</p>
